Subjective and objective cognitive impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea

چکیده
Background Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is associated with cognitive impairment (CI). We aimed to study subjective complaint (SCC) and objective scores, its relation polysomnography (PSG) parameters, in patients suspected of OSA. Method Patients OSA who were scheduled for PSG recruited. Cognition was assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) Color Trails Test (CTT). The Memory index score (MIS) also calculated from MoCA. presence SCC asking directly using Change Index rated self (CCI-S) or informants (CCI-I). severe dementia excluded. Result Among 258 an age 61.46±7.05 years, 51.2% are female. mean MoCA 23.89±3.89. Based on PSG, classified as having no mild (20.1%), moderate (28.3%), (51.6%). tests, had a higher proportion (64.1%) but less (38.3%) than CCI-S CCI-I scores significantly correlated each other (r = 0.238, p 0.019) not nor CTT-time. Objective tests number comorbidities several i.e., total time, onset latency, wake after onset, stages, O2 saturation, time spent SaO2 under 90% (all p<0.05). Meanwhile, any parameters. However, self-report Thai-Geriatric Depression Scale Epworth Sleepiness 0.388 0.262, respectively, <0.001). Thirty CI followed-up CPAP treatment 12.2 months showed significant improvement MIS CTT CCI scores. Conclusion Most impairment, found more stage Several parameters could have benefit treatment.

Objective versus Subjective Cognitive Functioning in Patients with Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Study objectives: Previous studies have found that patients’ neurocognitive functions were affected by OSA symptoms. However, no study has focused on the subjective awareness of cognitive impairments. This study used a subjective rating scale to evaluate OSA patient perceptions of their cognitive impairments, and explore the relationship between subjective and objective cognitive functions. Met...
متن کاملSleep Architecture in Patients With Primary Snoring and Obstructive Sleep Apnea
Introduction: This study aimed to investigate sleep architecture in patients with primary snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. Methods: In this study, we analyzed polysomnographic data of 391 clients who referred to Sleep Disorders Research Center (SDRS). These people were classified into three groups based on their Apnea-Hypopnea Index (AHI) and snoring; control, Primary Snoring (PS), and Obs...
متن کاملImpairment of vascular strain in patients with obstructive sleep apnea
BACKGROUND Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is an independent risk factor for the development of cardiovascular diseases. Aim of this present study was to evaluate and extend recent research on the influence of obstructive sleep apnea on vascular strain. METHODS A total number of 98 patients were integrated in the study. Patients were grouped according to the Apnea-Hypopnea-Index (AHI) in patien...
متن کاملDriving impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome.
Drivers with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) have an increased risk of motor vehicle crashes. Unfortunately, neither clinical nor polysomnographic features allow clinicians to reliably identify high-risk drivers. One potential means of identifying these drivers is with the use of driving simulators. Several investigators have shown that OSAS patients perform worse than healthy control d...
متن کاملCognitive impairment in patients with obstructive sleep apnea and associated hypoxemia.
Twenty-six patients with sleep apnea had neuropsychologic testing prior to nocturnal sleep study in a sleep disorders clinic. The cognitive functioning of patients who had sleep apnea with associated hypoxemia was compared to nonhypoxemic patients with sleep apnea. The patients who had sleep apnea with hypoxemia had more severe cognitive impairment than those with sleep apnea without hypoxemia....
